Our 2008 dinner and auction was held August 2nd. We raised almost $8,000, the entire amount of which went to children's health organizations, such as Shriner's Hospital for Children and Doernbecher Children's Hospital.

News Item (Grants Pass, OR, May 31, 2008):
Sharon Kleyne, Founder, President and Research Director of Bio-Logic Aqua Research, predicts that the skin cancer "melanoma" will become a major health crisis by 2050. According to the American Cancer Society, the incidence of melanoma has doubled since 1973, to an estimated 62,190 in 2006, with 7,910 deaths1.
Contributing factors include population growth, air and water pollution, decreasing fresh water availability, and ozone depletion. They also include indoor environments such as forced-air heating and cooling, and insulated walls and windows. Increased computer
use by just about everyone today, is causing symptoms of Computer Eye Strain
to be on the rise. According to Mrs. Kleyne, these conditions are expected to deteriorate, and those most affected will be children, who are at-risk now for melanoma and will become increasingly at-risk as they age.
Every year, Mrs. Kleyne hosts the Rogue Riviera Dinner and Auction event at her home on the beautiful Rogue River. To date we have raised $140,000, of which 100% was donated to three specific organizations. Please join us next year and do your part to help children stay healthy and melanoma free.

- Shriners Hospitals for Children - For decades, the Shriners have supported free hospitals for children in cities across the US, including Portland, OR. They are nationwide leaders in pediatric cancer research and other serious childhood diseases.
- Doernbecher Children's Hospital is a respected facility for children on the campus of Oregon Health and Science University in Portland.
- Grand Pass Family YMCA has enthusiastically worked with the Foundation on melanoma education for the past six years.
